Bioscreen History

Bioscreen™ — The Original And How It All Started (1980's)

The Bioscreen™ instrument was originally developed by the Finnish biotechnology company Labsystems Oy Ltd. back in the 1980’s. It was the successor to Labsystems Mutascreen™ analyzing system, which was developed to measure mutagenicity of chemicals, such as medications, pesticides, additives in nutrition, cosmetics etc. The Mutascreen-project was suspended in 1985 and the Bioscreen era begun.

The Bioscreen instruments are built to last and in continious daily use all over the world. This is perhaps best described by the fact that we're still servicing the second Bioscreen C, ever made, today - over 40 years later, which tells you everything about the remarkable Bioscreen quality, and robustness, that it is well known for today.

Bioscreen C MBR™ (1990's – 2018)

The Bioscreen C MBR™ was further developed in the 1990’s, when Labsystems was sold to Life Sciences Ltd., which later was acquired by Thermo Electron (Thermo Fisher Scientific today). Many of the groundbreaking features it later became well known for were added and it can be found at government-run facilities and in many of the top laboratories and universities all over the world!

In the early 2000’s the rights to the Bioscreen instrument was bought out from Thermo Electron Inc. and production at Growth Curves Ltd. begun. The Bioscreen C MBR has had an incredible continuous demand ever since, and was produced until 2018, when components shortages suspended production.

Bioscreen G Pro™ Gas (2019 / 2025 →)

The Bioscreen C MBR was replaced by the new, silent and further improved Bioscreen G Pro™ model in 2019. In 2025, the latest version — the Bioscreen G Pro Gas™ instrument — was introduced to the market. It has become a sought-after alternative, as customers at top universities, government institutions and privately held corporate laboratories around the world have demonstrated that an anaerobic model of the Bioscreen has long been awaited by its users. This is best proven by the thousands of publications using Bioscreen instruments, that today can be found on Google Scholar.
